YYZ Living Magazine Summer Issue Launch Party

YYZ Living Magazine Summer Launch PartyThe rooftop bar of Ultra Supper Club was packed a couple of hours earlier than usual last Thursday night.  Lifestyle quarterly YYZ Living Magazine was holding its eagerly awaited Summer 2011 Launch Party.  If the insanity of the inaugural party that kicked-off their premier issue last winter was to be any indication, this was going to be one sick party.  On a night that played host to a celebrity and sponsor loaded Power Ball, YYZ held its own.

The apex of luxury, YYZ (airport code for Toronto) presents a definitive vision of arts, culture, and society from the Torontonian perspective.  What is the Torontonian perspective?  That’s a great question.  Toronto is a city that has developed an unhealthy obsession with luxury.  I’m sure we’re not alone and to be honest, I can’t quite figure out when it all started.  My guess is that it was somewhere in between the blinged out hip hop video programming of MuchMusic and the lunacy of Sex In The City.

SPiN Toronto Pre-Launch Party With Soo Yeon Lee

SPiN Toronto Pre-LaunchEver since I was old enough to get my hands on my first fake ID, nightclubs, lounges, and supper clubs have been the traditional weekend party destinations of choice.  Unfortunately, the advent of grubby promoters’ fake-it-to-make-it lifestyle crap in the early 2000s replaced the good times and good vibes with bottle service booth confessionals in churches of pretension.  We’ve gone from dancing the night away to killer DJ sets to text messaging the night away to a barrage of hair-flicking like whatevers and oh my Gods.  Suffice it to say, with many of the city’s ‘hotspots’ growing increasingly expensive, cliquish, and 905-ish – it’s become difficult to go out and have a good time.

The solution?  Private parties and events that rely on shrewd promotion and carefully composed VIP lists from established PR professionals instead of sleazy tattooed club promoters.  Another great option, the cool burgeoning sports-themed party venues like Toronto’s bowling bar and grill The Ballroom and soon to be opened ping pong social club, SPiN.

Style Tips: Lindsay & Priscilla – “Italians Do It Better” Party at Gotstyle

Voted Best Menswear Store by NOW Magazine, Best Place To Buy a Suit by BlogTO, and One of the Top 10 Menswear Stores in Canada by SHARP MagazineGotstyle is an excellent one-stop-shop for men offering a huge selection in men’s designer and tailored suits, casual wear, shoes, ties, and other men’s accessories.  Located across the Thompson Hotel in downtown Toronto, they even boast the city’s first male-only spa staffed by beautiful women, and a two-chair barbershop (click here to book an appointment).

On Wednesday night Gotstyle invited guests to an Italians Do It Better party that featured some of the best in Italian men’s fashion, wine, truffle risotto, and Fresco gelato.  Michael La Fave, publisher of SHARP Magazine For Men swung by as did Philosopher Kings frontman, Jarvis Church.  Cut video footage suggests that there was even an event crashing Scottish Sasquatch in the mix.  That explains the disappearing risotto.

Swarovski Shows Its Black Swan: Fall/Winter 2011 Preview

Swarovski Fall/Winter 2011 PreviewYesterday evening, Swarovski Canada held their first ever Canadian Blogger Event.  Hosted at Andrew Richard Designs in Toronto’s Distillery District, the Black Swanish Fall/Winter 2011 Preview entitled Wings of Fantasy, was the jeweller’s final installment of their campaign trilogy.

Cool-to-neutral colours with the odd shot of ruby red featured prominently in the women’s FW11 pieces.  Sophisticated and each one more unique than the next, the design and colourful gradients were evident in many of my favourites including the violet-to-turquoise Player necklace and earrings set.  The stunning orzo-shaped, jewel-coloured crystals of the Proudly and Panache necklace and earrings sets are another example of superb Swarovski design and quality.  Glamorous FW11 pieces were complimented with novelty collectibles such as the Timothy Burton inspired reversible stitched broken heart Pepper set and the collaborative work with Disney and Hello Kitty.  Together with Swarovski’s signature caricatures and charms, they’re sure to boost sales, especially in the rapidly growing Asian luxury goods market.  New for Swarovski in FW11, is their first fragrance called Aura.  I’m pretty critical of women’s perfume, even skeptical when it comes to a new ‘designer’ product.  In all honestly though, check out Aura girls.  It smells amazing.
