As a male focused blog, It’s All Style To Me is particularly careful and very selective when it comes to venturing into the realm of women’s fashion. There is however, a hot young Toronto native of Croatian descent by the name of Wesley Badanjak, who many are keeping a close eye on. Having graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Design in Fashion from Ryerson University, Badanjak has worked for Canadian labels PEROS, Holt Renfrew Design Studios, Tevrow & Chase, American Paul Sinclaire, and renowned Canadian designer David Dixon. Named presumably after a small town in Croatia, LOVAS was launched by Badanjak in 2008 and has focused on the use of luxurious fabrics in classic tailoring and precise finishing with modern silhouettes.
The Fall/Winter 2011 LOVAS Collection is the best we’ve seen from the designer to date. The collection shows a high level of design maturity, creativity, and dedication to craftsmanship. The designer is getting bolder with each new collection and forging a unique signature look for his label. SISTERS, blends old world Slavic prints and styling elements into modern silhouettes in a palette of navy, charcoal, silver, and Bordeaux crimson. The collection is inspired by Badanjak’s mother Manda Badanjak and her twin sister Marija Vejin. “The idea of how these two women came from one culture and had to immerse themselves in a new one, change the way they dress, change the way they did things – it was about blending these two things together and creating a mash-up,” explains Badanjak in an interview with It’s All Style To Me. “It’s about doing odd things, like putting a chunky knit sweater over an evening dress and then taking traditional floral prints and cutting them in a way that’s very modern and different.”
Badanjak also scored bonus points for being one of the few designers at LG Fashion Week to actually provide everyone in attendance with a professional full-colour FW11 lookbook and line sheet, with get this – prices for all of the pieces. Highlights of the collection included a digitized floral print Pammy dress and floral print Julianne dress, herringbone cape and coat, smart office suits, an elegant black velvet gown, and killer coyote and raccoon vest. Brilliant work. For Day 3 photos, please visit the It’s All Style To Me Facebook Page.
