Buckler Men’s Collection Fall/Winter 2011

It wasn’t until 9:50AM on Friday morning that I received an email with subject heading, “BUCKLER IS TODAY.”  Some might call it a little unorthodox to send out an invitation only hours before a fashion show is scheduled to begin.  Crazier still, to convert a portion of Grand Street in downtown Soho into a catwalk – but that’s Andrew Buckler.  For the FW11 collection, Buckler took his inspiration from urban art paying tribute to street artists who use the streets as their medium to communicate.

Buckler’s palette was more Dior than Gucci sticking to basic black, grey, and beige with a punch of bright bumble bee yellow in select pieces and accessories for a garment-becomes-the-canvas effect.  Sweaters and outerwear were long and draped over a slim silhouette.  Buckler has managed to reinterpret utilitarian icons such as the parka, the hoodie, the cargo pant and military lace-up boot.  His asymmetrical cuts, longer lengths and inventive fabrics emphasize the rawness of his collection.

Buckler produces great men’s wardrobe staples and fashion forward sweaters and shirts.  Boots, pants, and outerwear are the strongest points of the FW11 collection.  For more photos please see my Facebook page.
