Held in a townhouse in Paris’ 8th district, Stefano Pilati’s latest fashion show for YSL presented us with a collection that looked more Austrian than French. Two and four-buttoned suits in greys and metallics mixed well with the coloured turtlenecks for a bold look. The check-plaids were also a strong point of the show. Choosing to skip out on the baggy or pleated pant trend, Pilati kept the pant cut slim and the hems Thom Browne high. Suits were also slim for FW11, which contrasted bizarrely to the big, bulky, loose-fitting coats.
Despite the ugly clunky camouflaged-soled boots and brogues that were a distraction, overall the collection looked strong and wearable. Traditionally regarded as more of an edgy bad boy of fashion, Pilati stuck to a more classic and conservative looking menswear collection that charmed the crowd.
